It’s not every day that you lift and operate a 220-ton mobile crane onto the rooftop of an existing 4-story building, but that was the case at this 300,000 SF west-side Toyota showroom.

When tasked with dreaming up a tower crane alternative for this massive enlargement project, our team presented and executed a truly unique solution. Working closely with the Structural Engineer of Record on the reinforcement of the 4th-floor steel, we provided a runway for the crane to safely travel and operate within this sprawling building footprint. We designed a 500-ton crane plan to install and eventually remove the rooftop crane from West 49th Street. This project required Lombardo to provide a detailed erection sequence, an unconventional crane dis-assembly and re-assembly, and custom crane tie-downs and guardrails in a location experiencing consistently high wind gusts.
